🏖️ SurfingLocated on the verge of the Indian Ocean on the island of Java and near the island of Christmas, Gunung Kidul is a regency of the special territory of Yogyakarta, a region of Indonesia. A large part of this territory is composed of mountains, hence its name which means "the southern mountains" in Javanese, the language spoken in this part of the country. Its archeological sites show the presence of human life in the area for nearly 10,000 years. Ruins of temples or houses have also been found and they can be visited. The regency is separated in two parts. The south coast has all the beaches of the regency while the north is more mountainous and the center is where it is most easy to work the soil. The climate of the region is tropical, which means they have a high level of humidity and an average temperature is 27.7 °C. The beaches are easily accessible from Yogyakarta, the large city of the territory where the airport is located. Some of them require a small hike but the landscape is totally worth it. Alongside, there are seafood restaurants and hostels with rooms with beautiful ocean views. There are also markets selling local products and miles of beach left untouched. They also offer other activities such as kayak tours and tours of the regency with local guides. In the northern part, most of the tourism is based on hiking and mountain excursions. The tours vary in number of kilometers. One of the must-see sites is Sri Gethurk Waterfall, which is almost 25 meters high. It is also possible to bathe at the foot of the waterfall. The area also has many caves and underground rivers that can be visited in the Gunung Sewu Geopark. Gunung Kidul is a regency that has many assets: beaches, mountains, tourist attractions ... Its duality allows you to create a trip that suits you, whether you like sports or relaxing. Discover Indonesia as you have never seen it before.
